About Gilbert:
Gilbert is pretty much a mixture of everything. He is controlling, determined, cocky and yet he can be kind, affectionate and caring. He chooses who to show each side of himself. He is not a violent person, and yet he seems to get everything done by fighting. Although he never really gets his hands dirty he is the one that influences people to fight.
Gilbert knows exactly who to use and what to use them for. This is the trait that he shows most in the series, as he chooses people for certain skills that benefit him. For example, Meer Campbell, her singing and acting abilities, Athrun Zala, his piloting skills, Shinn Asuka, his piloting abilities and even he can even control the normal citizen. It is because Gilbert has a way with words that allows him to use people to his advantage and take control of a situation. He makes you see what you want to see, and hear what you want to hear.
However he does havea weakness, it comes in the form of perfection. He cannot and will not lose to anyone. He will destroy all who appose him. He will not accept defeat even if it hits him in the face.
Gilbert may have done pretty mean things and may have really used people like tools but he was not a bad person. His goal was always pure, 'the achieve peace' anyway possible. But it was probably his goal that defeated him in the end. He was trying to force peace by controlling the world and it's people.
