Why do the lights scatter?

Shinn and Rey's relationship is one of trust and respect. Each one viewed the other has someone with great potential and a loyal friend. One of the things that I love about them is that they are able to be themslves around one another. Even Rey who is such a stiff loosens up around Shinn. When they were faced with hardships they both leaned on each other, and got through it, together. Example, when Rey collasped at the Luna Laboratory, if Shinn wasn't there he would have gone crazy. If Rey hadn't been there for Shinn, Stellar would have become an experiment for ZAFT. Shinn would have never beaten the Freedom (Rey helped him analyze the Freedoms moves). These guys graduated together, became pilots together, they were extremly close. All they did was help one another through out the series.

To me, the truth is that Shinn didn't have any friends on the Minerva except for Rey. Shinn hardly bonded with anyone. He was always so alone, rude to everyone except for Rey. Rey was the only one Shinn actually respected and cared for. Rey's oppinion mattered alot more then everyone elses to Shinn. It is only later in the series does he open up to others.

Rey, is so stiff all the time. As though he never lets his guard down (unless it's Shinn, or Gilbert). Rey cares alot for Shinn. Shinn was there for Rey when he was at his worst. He even confined in Shinn that he was a clone. Rey always thought that Shinn was someone special, he was never jealous of him. If Rey didn't like Shinn he wouldn't go so out of his way for him all the time, he'd just ignore him like he does with everyone else.

Well if Rey and Shinn were such good friends why did Rey manipulate him? This is something that I think was completly unintentional, at least on Rey's part. Rey didn't manipulate Shinn Gilbert did, in fact Gilbert manipulated both of them. True, Rey did encourage and back up Gilbert but it's because he believed in his 'idea world' aswell and so did Shinn. They both shared the same ideas. It's not like Rey's views were very clear either, how can you expect to help a firend when you, yourself, are blinded by the same light?
